Expertise and experience

Belinda is an experienced solicitor in the field of cross-border insurance and personal injury law, with particular expertise in international motor accidents and catastrophic injury, including fatalities, brain injury and amputations.

She has worked at Pierre Thomas since 2018 and acts for accident victims, defendants and their insurers.  She advises on insurance litigation, motor liability, ski accidents, catastrophic injury, fatalities, applicable law and jurisdiction queries.

Belinda has a strong understanding of the law in several European jurisdictions. She has excellent technical skills and is known for her proactive and tenacious approach to claims. She is respected for providing clear, pragmatic advice and using her initiative.

She has handled cases involving the laws of France, Spain, Belgium, Greece, Germany, Italy, Romania and Cyprus.

Belinda is a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL).

For claimants

  • Achieved a £20,000 settlement for a client after her hand was bitten by a dog on a campsite in France.
  • Negotiated compensation for a couple who were injured on a sightseeing bus in Paris after the bus went under a low bridge and the roof of the bus collapsed onto them.
  • Secured €165,000 for a French skier who broke both of his arms after another skier lost control and collided into him.
  • Obtained compensation for a holidaymaker after Christmas lights fell onto her from the façade of a prominent hotel in Venice.
  • Secured compensation for a biathlete involved in a cycling collision with another cyclist.

For defendants

  • Represented the insurer of a Bulgarian lorry driver following a multi-party fatal collision on a motorway in the UK.
  • Acted for a Spanish insurer defending a fraudulent claim brought by an English Claimant following a road traffic collision in Spain. The claim was struck out following disclosure of surveillance evidence and we were awarded our costs.
  • Represented a Belgian Insurer after a claim was brought by English nationals in the wrong jurisdiction. The claim was struck out.
  • Acted for a French insurer in defending a fraudulent claim brought by a “phantom passenger”.

Acted on behalf of a French National after a beater was shot in the eye by an unknown party during a grouse shoot on the moors. Defended the claim in full.

Outside the office

In her free time, Belinda is a volunteer at Bookmark, a reading charity for children. She previously volunteered at St Leonard’s Hospice in York.

She enjoys skiing, ran the Paris Marathon in 2018 and recently achieved a sailing qualification.
